Our debut campaign shoot was all of that, and more.
It Started with a Phone Call
When I began planning the debut Haley J. campaign, I knew exactly which photographer I wanted to work with. I reached out, not knowing she was living in Europe for the year. When she suggested shooting the campaign there, the answer was immediately yes.
I've always envisioned Haley J. as a resort brand. Crystal blue water, warm golden light, the effortless energy of a European summer. It was the perfect match for our aesthetic. What started as a campaign concept became something much more. A full visual story shot on location in Split, Croatia.
From there, the concept evolved through ongoing conversations between the two of us. We explored everything from location scouting to the overall mood we wanted to create, ultimately building out detailed mood boards to capture the specific energy we were after. Every reference, every color palette, every image we pulled was chosen with intention.
On the Ground in Split
Since Split is a smaller coastal city, we flew models in from multiple countries across Europe. The result was a cast full of women who each brought something different. They each carried their own energy, their own presence, and their own way of moving in the pieces.
The night before the shoot, we held a model fitting. That moment ended up shaping the entire shoot. We made several last-minute styling adjustments, pairing Haley J. pieces together in new combinations we hadn't originally planned. Some of our favorite looks in the final campaign came directly out of those late-night decisions.
When the Unexpected Becomes the Shot
Shooting on location means working with variables that no mood board can fully prepare you for. The movement of the sun, people in the background, the way light shifts unexpectedly in the late afternoon.
We had to pivot constantly, reading the environment and adjusting in real time to make the most of each moment.
Some of our best shots weren't planned at all, they emerged organically on set. An unexpected pose, a new way to style a prop, a movement a model suggested that wasn't anywhere on the original mood board. Shooting in a location as beautiful as Croatia, surrounded by light and water, there were moments that simply couldn't be staged. We just had to be ready for them.
Joy Was Always the Direction
Haley J. is rooted in joy. That’s not just a brand value, it’s a feeling we actively chose to protect on set.
While an eight-hour shoot is a long day, the energy never felt heavy. We laughed, we experimented, and we let moments breathe. One of the models told me afterward it was the most relaxed and fun set she had ever been on. As a founder striving to infuse joy into everything I do, that was truly the greatest compliment.
When joy is present on set, it shows up in the images. You can feel it in the way someone is standing, the ease of a smile, the energy a piece carries when the person wearing it is happy. That's the feeling I want every person to experience when they look at a Haley J. campaign.
A Personal Touch
One special part of this shoot was entirely personal.
My daughter was our child model for the campaign. Getting to travel internationally with her, watching her on set, and seeing her wear pieces from the brand I’ve spent years building is something I will carry with me for a long time. She brought a lightness to the day that was impossible to manufacture and having her there made the photoshoot that much sweeter.
More Than a Photoshoot
A Haley J. campaign isn't just about getting beautiful images. It's about creating a world that the person wearing these clothes can see themselves inside of.
Every decision, from location to cast and styling, works together to tell a story. And that story is always the same at its core: confidence, color, and the kind of joy that makes you want to show up fully.
Croatia was the beginning of that story.
